What is the student: teacher ratio?

In Iowa, the student-to-teacher ratio for childcare depends on the age group of the children. For toddlers (2-3 years), it's 1 teacher for every 7 children, and for preschoolers (3-5 years), the ratio is 1 teacher for every 10 children. For school-aged children, the ratio increases to 1 teacher for every 15 children. These guidelines are designed to ensure that every child receives the individual attention and care they need in a safe and nurturing environment.

We don't need full-time care, is that the only option?

Yes, our program is designed for full-time students to provide a consistent and immersive learning experience. This structure not only allows children to fully engage with our farm-based curriculum, build strong connections with their peers, and benefit from the rhythm of daily activities, but also offers families the convenience and peace of mind of always having care available. With a set schedule, you won’t have to worry about finding additional care on certain days or adjusting to different routines. We understand that every family’s needs are unique, and while we currently only offer full-time enrollment, we’d be happy to answer any other questions to see if our program is the right fit for your child!

What safety measures to you take?

At Little Farmers Preschool, your child’s safety is our top priority. We are committed to maintaining a secure environment where children can explore, learn, and grow with confidence. Our staff is trained in safety protocols, first aid, and emergency procedures to ensure that every child is well-cared for and protected throughout the day. We also have secure check-in and check-out processes to keep track of every child’s whereabouts. In addition, we prioritize sun protection and weather readiness. Children are provided with sunscreen before outdoor play, and we encourage the use of hats and appropriate clothing to stay safe in the sun. On colder or rainy days, we make sure they’re dressed in weather-appropriate gear, so they’re always comfortable and safe no matter the season. With a focus on both physical safety and emotional well-being, we provide a space where children can thrive while knowing they are safe and supported every step of the way.

Do you participate in the four year-old preschool grant?

At Little Farmers Preschool, we currently do not participate in the State of Iowa’s Four-Year-Old Preschool Grant program. However, we strive to make our tuition competitive and affordable on an annual and daily basis. We believe that quality early childhood education should be accessible, and our tuition reflects the exceptional care, curriculum, and personalized attention your child will receive when they are with us Additionally, we offer available care during weather-related closures and school breaks, ensuring that families have reliable options when school is not in session. If you have any questions about tuition or need more information, we’re happy to provide details to help you make the best choice for your family.

Do you provide meals and snacks?

Yes, we provide meals and snacks to support your child’s day at Little Farmers Preschool! During the school year, lunch is available for just $2 per day. Our homemade lunches focus on healthy, fresh ingredients, with an emphasis on produce grown in our own garden. For snacks, we offer a morning snack that’s a combination of family contributions and staff preparation, ensuring a variety of healthy options. A nutritious afternoon snack is also provided.

In the summer, we ask that students bring lunch from home. This allows us to focus on outdoor activities and seasonal fun. If you have any questions about our meal program or dietary accommodations, feel free to reach out!

Do children need to be potty trained?

At Little Farmers Preschool, we ask that children be mostly potty trained, meaning they are able to independently use the bathroom with minimal assistance. While full potty training isn’t required, we do expect children to be able to recognize when they need to go and manage most bathroom tasks on their own. We understand that accidents may still happen, and for our youngest learners, we’re always ready to provide gentle support as they continue to build confidence in their skills. If you have any questions or concerns about potty training, feel free to reach out!
